I Knew a Man
I once knew a man who had no fear,
walked tall and strong when danger was near.
Fighting for the ones he loved so dearly,
and a resting place above.
Known far and wide for the deeds he had done.
Shown high on a pedestal,
but no more than a mere man.
Aged with the years of wisdom that only few can obtain.
Hands roughened from the years of hard labor,
but still soft enough to care.
I knew a man once who is now gone,
grieved by those left behind.
Left on a journey we all one day would like to be on,
flying high up in the sky.
