I Hope I Am Sleeping When I Die

I hope I am sleeping when I die.
In pain I do not want to cry.
I’d wake others, and that is why
I hope I am sleeping when I die.

It seems more peaceful, more serene
fading away from nature’s scene.
Sleep is a soft death, and that is why
I hope I am sleeping when I die.

It wouldn’t be awful never waking up.
There’d be nothing harsh, nothing corrupt.
It wouldn’t hurt, and that is why
I hope I am sleeping when I die.
