I Have To Believe That One Day

I have to believe that one day, 
I’ll be with you, happy and free.
So trust in me, Dear, when I say
together, at long last, we’ll be.

Through each lonely night until dawn
In dreams you come to me sweetly.
I wake, thinking as day goes on
together at long last we‘ll be.

Even though now I can’t have you,
Forever I know you’ll love me.
That is the one thing I cling to.
Together, at long last, we’ll be.

I have to believe that one day
together, at long last, we’ll be.

Written June 2016 for Teppo Gren's Evergreens (Golden Oldies) # 3 Poetry Contest and inspired by Andy Williams' "A Time for Us"

When I told others of him, nosey people said they hadn't seen him. I'd tell them he wasn't very big, was so very shy, but could serenade me throughout the night.
