I Have Only My Heart To Give

"I Have Only My Heart To Give"

If I were to say that I would give you the world,
that would be quite the boast!
That would be like saying we'll have a life of champagne
and every day with our glasses we'll toast!

If I were to tell you that I'd give you the moon
and every star of the night,
that would be quite the promise,
               though wonderfully sounding,
                  just doesn't sound right!

If I were to say I would give you
          Diamonds, Rubies, Pearls and Gold,
a treasure trove of sparkling baubles
             with value and wealth untold,

Though these would be wonderful promises
               of boast, toast and lavishing,
the truth at the heart of this matter
has a very different sounding ring!

The most valuable possession I have
I give to you most willingly!
"I Have Only My Heart To Give"
My Treasure to you for Eternity!
