I Have Learned Many Things
I have learned a lot of things
I have learned to be kind
For kind words can heal
A wounded soul
I have learned to cherish
The elderly for the clock
Is ticking and when
Their internal clocks stop beating
There is no going back
I have learned to stop wishing
That good things will last for ever
Coz they never do
Even a fool knows that
I have learned to embrace
My imperfections coz that's
What makes me, me
The original, authentic one
Not some glossed over miserable knock-off
I have learned many things
I have learned to accept that things
Will not always go my way
And that that's okay
I have learned that
If you stir the pot
It might get hot and spit
Hot soup in your face
But, you must stir it anyway
For, in order to sustain ourselves
We must keep stirring
Churning and toiling
I have learned that
Every human being has a cross to carry
And I will carry mine
Graciously
I will not look left, nor will I look right
For, if I do, I might be deceived
This is my journey, my road to travel
They say that you should
Turn the other cheek
I haven’t learnt that yet that
But I will
They say that you should do unto others
As you would have done unto you
I will strive to do that
They say that thou
Shall eat the fruit of thy labour
I will hunger not
Nor will my neighour
And nor should you
Many things I have learned
