I Have a Shark's Tooth

I have a shark's tooth Found under the soil not so deep In my Kansas yard. I hide it from others so they will not ruin My illusions about it. I feel it is from a fierce and mighty shark Who devoured little fish, and even maybe a human leg. I picture it as being from prehistoric times. I hide it especially well when the archeologists come visit We have a creek in the backyard where they have had a dig Discovering hundreds of arrowheads And maybe an axe handle, but not the one I am hiding with My shark's tooth. For I do not want anyone to ruin my Axe handle illusions either.

When others get into the picture, they are bound to inflate or deflate your dreams and imagination, Caren...best to keep your findings to yourself, thus safeguarding what you prefer to believe! Regards // paul

i love it! your shark's tooth is a secret treasure full of imagination of the past it carried, the life it had before being buried, and the trip that brought it so far from the ocean as we know it, a great story it tells secretly only to its keeper. :)

Thank you for your lovely comment, Frankii. Why you and I are up at 1:04 a.m. is anyone's guess. I am on spring break, and I so hope you do not have to go to work in six hours!

THAT shark's tooth has a very special history. It comes from the demon-shark that was once killed in a mighty battle of three days, by Ha-Tunewak, himself! The shark became trapped in a bay of the great sea, which once covered Kansas. Or, whatever you would like it to be! :-) Wonderful poem. Reminds me of the Littlest Angel's box, under the bed.

Thank you Eve. I love letting her "go" for she is named, and there is no way to tame her.
