I Hang My Head In Shame
I hang my head…in shame
I hang my head…in shame
At things that I have seen
I wonder if this world
Can ever be redeemed
I’ve seen the starving children
And know that death will come
While mountains full of wasted food
Are rotting in the sun
I’ve seen those countless soldiers
Dying for the cause
Fighting for a world of peace
In a thousand different wars
I’ve seen so many different wrongs
I hang my head…in shame
No help is “freely” given
To the needy or the lame
I’ve seen too much injustice
Men break down and cry
I hang my head…in shame
As I search for reasons why?
I’ve seen those many refugees
Desperate in their plight
Trying hard just to escape
Someone else’s fight
I’ve heard the politicians say
They listen and they serve
But for the poorest majority
Their voices go unheard
I’ve seen a world in turmoil
Full of anger, full of pain
I find there is no answer
So I hang my head…in shame
