I Had a Dream

I dreamt of love
and woke to find the dove
in the talons of the machine.

I dreamt of war
and woke to find its sore
too deep to stitch with a seam.

I dreamt of peace
and woke to find its lease
was more than I could redeem.

I dreamt of hate
and woke to find too late
I was a fossil in a stream.
