Notes About The Poem

I Grew a Rose

I grew a rose
The reddest rose
Of any rose that grows
The sweetest scent
Magnificent
Resplendence for the nose
Irrefutable
How beautiful
None would dare oppose
So delicate
And elegant
I wonder if it knows

But it adorns
The sharpest thorns
For those who would impose
A little prick
Will do the trick
To leave it in repose
For in as much
One chance a touch
You'll see the blood that flows
So I propose
Your hands stay closed
And just admire my rose

Ha ha ... different from what you normally write ... though it is in rhyme, it reads like a free verse ... from its flow and what it conveys, I say so ... very interesting and nice ...

Just amazing how you put words together, Daniel. I bet it only took you 10 or 15 minutes to write this one. Really great...and I love roses. My mother and daddy had a garden full...and I miss them all...my parents and the roses.

A brilliant analogy, comparing the rose to a delicate life. Those thorns are the only way a "rose" can exist in our world, Daniel. Many people find ways to shield themselves from pain and this poem conveys its message so well. I especially like the short lines and the excellent rhymes. A fave!

This is so beautiful DT. Funny it reminds me of yesterday. All the beautiful and delicious chocolate, the great costumes, and greetings with the neighbors but today I have been pricked by the thorn. A chocolate headache and a broken down body from all the walking....lol

Thanks Tim. I was reading Frost's "Rose Pogonias" and thought I'd give it a try. Obviously I'm no Robert Frost. Lol Better lay off the chocolate and get some rest. It is a gorgeous day here. Hope you are enjoying the same:)
