I Forgot About You, But I Don't Remember When

I forgot about you,
but I don't remember when.

With all the thoughts inscribed to you,
I once had to chase the pen.

My mind's now like an empty gas tank.
Oh, the roads we traveled... I can't get there.

The dedication page is blank,
because I can't remember what or where.

With all the adventures lived without you
and every brand new start,

with life otherwise filled, now I doubt you
ever existed in my heart.

Senility is what gets me through
each memory from beginning to end.

I forgot about you,
but I don't remember when.

Juliet, it was the title that caught my eye (brilliant, by the way) and I found myself being drawn in as the rhyme progressed. I found myself thinking that the writer may have split from her partner in the past and whether the sad onset of dementia actually stopped her remembering the bad times. ...and I think too much sometimes :) Cheers - Gary

You remembered those moments still. Somewhere, some how. All that matters. -R

GrEaT poem, Juliet!! Maybe I forgot my poetic manners, but I don't take this poem as serious as everyone else. It was a fun, irreverent thrill ride thru another person mind's-eye. I had blast reading this whimsical write. So cool-lio expressed. Love and peace forever.

Thanks, Freddie. The beauty of poetry is each person's interpretation can be different based on their own personal experiences. When I wrote it I'd had in mind that this person had moved on but didn't realize when it happened because life was filled in other ways, and in the end it took senility for them to finally forget someone who was once dear in their heart but out of the picture.

Thanks, S.O. When I wrote this I'd actually intended for the forgetfulness to be a good thing. The ability to forget, someone once all consuming but no longer present, with busyness and senility. It's neat that poetry can speak differently to each person.

##I forgot about you, but I don't remember when.##If we don't have the ability to forget, we would be like a filled CD ROM.. without rewriting..
