I Fell Hard So I Could Begin To Understand

I fell back to my side
A rejected friend
A refused mend
An unshaken hand

Blinded by unfounded fears
I know I fell on deaf ears
Still at the top of my voice
At the threshold of my tears

I fell onto my knees
For you like a god to appease
You still couldn’t help me stand
You still didn’t take my hand

I fell for the last time on my face
To that ‘don’t give a damn’ lowest of place
At your feet, head in sand
I fell hard so I could begin to understand

'With humility comes acceptance and understanding...'
