I Dreamt

I cried in my sleep today
the realization that my father was
gone had finally reached it's peak
when woke up I could barely utter
a word.

Tears fell down my face
like a wounded baby bird that
had just attempted to fly
but wasn't strong enough
to stay up in the sky

It hurt so much to be awake
that my heart began to beat
fast like a drum
and my stomach started aching as if
I had just eaten a rotten plum.

So I sunk back into my pillow like the titanic sank
in the sea. I fought to stay awake but in the end
I had to admit defeat.

Again I drifted off into my dreams.
I dreamt I was in my father's arms
and he was rocking me to sleep
just like he used to.
I didn't want to wake up ever
