I Dream Poetry
I DREAM POETRY
When slumber overtakes my waking mind
There are words I hear that seem to flow
But with no poetic reference that I can find
Keep bubbling up from somewhere below
I am asleep, so consciousness has resigned
The lines arriving from where I don’t know
With images of all kinds coming into view
I see beauty and sadness, struggle and joy
All the emotions I’ve experienced, it’s true
But it takes just one wrong word to destroy
And one good metaphor to change the hue
Maybe it always was the dream’s clever ploy
