I Did It My Way

It was Valentines Day many years ago
Wasn’t a leap year that I do know

Knelt by the bed and I said to him
‘Marry me mate I’m not living in sin’*

Twenty-two years on and we are still wed
Grab every chance it’s too late if you’re dead

Life has a way of knocking us back
Keep positive; stay on the right track

Life is a journey we travel this way
Live life to the full; cherish each day

If a poet can't proclaim poetic license, then hell, we're in the wrong place! Nice post Jan, great job

Dear Jan, How wonderful that you had the confidence to ask him!! Congratulations on having a long-lasting marriage. (I think I'm a sheep for I can't think of one thing I did to buck the system.) Sending winning wishes to you! Love, Carolyn

Jan; This is a beautiful poem and I'm glad that you took a chance and did it your way. Your last stanza says it all and that is what I'm trying to do. Blessings..... Lucilla
