I Could Not Help But Stop and Stay

I wandered through a forest deep, Where secrets whispered in the trees, And as I walked, the shadows crept, And danced with every gentle breeze. The rustling leaves sang a song, Of ages long since passed away, And though I knew I didn't belong, I couldn't help but stop and stay. The forest spoke in tongues unknown, But I could feel its ancient voice, And though my heart was chilled to bone, I knew I had no other choice. So I surrendered to the night, And let the forest take me whole, And as I faded into sight, I felt a peace within my soul. For in that forest, I was free, To be myself and nothing more, And though I longed to never leave, I knew I had to close the door.
