I Can No Longer Open My Eyes

I can no longer open—My Eyes—
The Light—too vast—to bear—
It leans upon my silent Lid—
And whispers—what is There—

I used to greet the Morning—
As one might greet a Friend—
But now—the thorns —have grown too sharp—
These meetings—have an End—

The Sparrow sings—beyond the Veil—
I hear—but cannot Go—
The Garden hums—a secret Hymn—
To Souls—beneath the Snow—

My Room—a little Kingdom—
Where Shadows—take their Tea—
The Window—closed by Mercy’s Hand—
Lends Mercy—back—to Me—

So—should you seek—my open Gaze—
You’ll find—it turned—Inside—
For Heaven is—a smaller Place—
Where Sight—has—never—died—

Dear, you said Emily and I'm almost there. Do you have a favorite poet and a favorite poem. I can only try to have you think they wrote it, but they have long been dead. They need a couple of more categories, like mathematical Poetry. Can we message other people without putting it in the comment section. James
