I Ask

Oh Great Spirit I ask Thee
To watch over and protect my brave Cherokee
He has gone away I know not where
Yet my spirit is with him there
He must do this task now
And the pain of parting has caused him sorrow
I ask you Great Spirit if it is to be
Bring him safely home to me
He holds my spirit and my heart
Leaving me only sadness since we’ve been apart
Only when I see his smiling face
Can this sadness be erased
Oh Great Spirit I ask of Thee
Bring safely back my Cherokee
