Notes About The Poem

My little guy Toby peacefully transitioned in our home with help from LapOfLove vet. I knew he was ready though it tore my heart open. I believe all beings have a soul that reaches beyond this world, and who have a special place with their loved ones on the other side. I look forward to joining them all one day.

I Am Not Gone

I'm in the gentle breeze that touches your face on a still, windless day,

I'll show myself in the clouds romping across the sky in play.

I'm still here in your heart space, gently reminding you that I’ll always be

In the corner of the room, or sitting by my bowl, waiting to eat.

I'm still here though the old me you cannot see

But I’m with my two sisters, much older than me

They came to sit with me on that day you let me go

They took me by the paw and gently took me home

Across the rainbow bridge and through the light

Into God’s kingdom, and oh, what a sight

No more hurt, no more pain on this side

Love knows no bounds up here where his peace resides

Even though I loved you beyond words and so sad to go

We all knew it was time for me to leave this world

I’ll save you a place and on the day you finally come

We three will meet you too, and gently lead you home
