I Am My Own
Life tried to teach me how to turn away,
to doubt my worth, to dim my flame,
to wear my wounds like quiet shame,
and slowly learn to hate my name.
It whispered lies in tender years,
fed every crack with borrowed fears,
told me I was less than whole
a fractured heart, a restless soul.
But I have walked through all of me,
through shadowed truths I had to see.
I gathered every broken part
and stitched them back into my heart.
I am in love with who I’ve grown,
with every seed that fought alone.
I know my depths, I know my pain,
and still I choose myself again.
I do not break the trust I keep,
I hold my truth, I guard it deep.
Where life once pushed me to divide,
I learned to stand here on my side.
I know the language of my needs,
the quiet pulse, the unseen pleas.
I’ve learned to give, to soothe, to be
the very love I needed for me.
For how could I pour into another’s cup
if mine stood empty, cracked, and shut?
How could I love with open hands
if I abandoned where I stand?
So I became my safest place,
my own soft touch, my steady grace.
Not out of pride, but truth made clear
I am the one who brought me here.
And now no voice can make me small,
no past can claim it knew me all.
For in the end, through all I’ve felt,
I was the love I never left.
