I Am My Name
I am my name
If you remember my name, you have my attention
Pronounce it well, you have my trust
I am nothing but my name
My name is a certain point in time
They remember the time, they remember the weather
My name is that weather I will never remember
My name, a moment in time
I am my name
Inherited from lost loved ones, I never met them
They see them, when they see me
If I fail them, will they blame the name
Call my name, slang it, chant it, whisper it
Loud noise does not drown out my name on a roll call
All my senses heed the call of my name
I turn my head, raise my eyes, I’m diverted from my stride
My name, I will forever hold
Crossed out on short lists, I still keep it
Lost in the struggles, it emerges out of rubble
My name is the only thing that remains, after dust to dust
Keep it and give your memories a frame to hold what’s past
