I Am From

I am from music A body of black and white keys From a voice that can sing And two hands that can speak I am from the warmth Where water travels free I am from plastic Destroying the planet that is our home From pencils that draw And colors that roam I am from the clear beaches Miles of sand and white foam I am from erasers Taking away what was there yet leaving a bit behind From a perpetually ticking watch And the memories of the past and present intertwined I am from the air of a polluted city The remains and doings of mankind I am from food A savoring taste and a beautiful smell From sweets so delicious And large meals cooked well I am from the diners Where the food is just swell I am from connections Friendships and family From unwavering loyalty And a world of no tragedy I am from the place of love Both unreal yet the harsh reality
