Hurtin' Songs

Someday, someone will bring back de Blues Crying songs of yesterday When we were young When no better than de hurting songs were sung Heartbreak caused us all to bruise Someday, another Billie Holliday will rise up A Bessie, Howlin’ Wolf, and Bobby Bland Ella belting from de heart Their deep-down message from de start Blip, blub-a-do, wop, bip-bop a ‘bup.

I'm so happy you had this reaction, Shirley. It proves my poem was what I intended it to be.

I love this poem but especially this part Hank "Blip, blub-a-do, wop, bip-bop a ‘bup." You inner child is at work!

I tried my best to imitate Ella Fitzgerald with my sounds, but not sure I succeeded. I love jazz and de blues. Glad you enjoyed it.

Hi, I used to enjoy listening to Tom Waits and his raspy voice. Not sure if that qualifies as Mississippi Delta blues..Delice

Superb singer, in my opinion. I don't know either, Delice. Thanks for the read and your comment.

Such a fun, but so true read! We are a de blues list in house here, from Bessie to the band. I didn’t know de blues til I met my husband in 1982 when I was 32. A world opened, As I wrote, I listen to OTR, old time radio, where de blues is oft played, but I get it on Amazon music. Enjoyed reading this! Ox sally
