Huntington's chorea one horrible ill There's no curative treatment or pill Science does research all fails Some to no avail Man can't cure Still I'm sure Of sunrise, boat's sails A new day offers details Of a treatment, not a living will Huntington's chorea one horrible ill
Written: November 25, 2018 Contest: The I Of The Storm Poetry Contest Sponsor: Maureen McGreavy Huntington's Disease is a brain disease caused by an abnormal protein that accumulates in the brain. This diseased protein interferes in the neurons making connection in the brain to carry out necessary thought process and movement. It can come on even in early childhood to late age and last from a few years to a very long time. The family who lives with this hanging over their head goes through the turmoil as well as the person who has the illness. This is Andrea Dietrich's form but I can't remember the name of it.

My form is named Andaree. Thanks for mentioning that. you wrote very well on a topic that people need to understand. There are many terrible diseases which so far the scientists have not been able to fight against. It's so sad for families affected.

Andrea, I knew that the form was/is something with part of your name but could not remember what. Senior problem I guess. Maybe something else but have not discussed it with my doctor. Well, there is hope for so many illnesses if there is a breakthrough with one then it might get the ball rolling on many others. Sometimes illnesses are similar so one treatment can open doors. God is still in the healing business. If we eat right, get adequate rest, avoid toxic chemicals, etc. life would be healthier but sometimes that doesn't work every time. Thanks for dropping by. Sara

Susan, Thanks for your presence at my page. People do need to know so that they can treat people who are different with more respect. If one has never been around this illness they can not know what anxiety the family and person that has been diagnosed with it goes through. Thanks for the visit. Sara

Laurie, Our grandson is still in the stage we can leave him alone and he doesn't have to have special help but that will come. I will eventually have to get him in a nursing home for he will need 24 hour a day care. Thank you for stopping by. I appreciate the kind review. Sara

Sherry, There is a new treatment on the horizon but it is still in the early stages. In England at a University and hospital somewhat like Emory University in Atlanta they have come up with a treatment that blocks the abnormal protein. It is injected into the spinal canal fluid once a month. It is in the early stages of being tested has been tested on humans now. It seems to stop the progression of the illness and some reversal of the disease. Hope can be right around the corner. Sara
