This made me feel badly; I used to have feeders for them and forgot to replenish them this summer. Ugh!

Beautiful! I love hummingbirds. My dad put an old mattress on the patio so the babies wouldn’t be hurt if they fell out of the nests. This was when I was a kid.

Your father was a very, very tender-hearted, loving sort of fellow. Most people go about their business and never notice that occasionally a tiny little bird falls out of the nest and dies on the cold, hard ground.

Yes. They are great little birds. They are also fearsome. Have you ever watched them in operation around a feeder? They will take on birds four times their size. Neat little critters.
