Hummingbird

While sitting on my front porch Having my ham sandwich for lunch, A tiny ruby-throated hummingbird Flew past my head at lightning speed I did think it rather strange, indeed, For I don’t usually hummingbirds feed Until I realized I was wearing a bright Red shirt, which he must have taken For a feeder, he was quite mistaken, A speed record he was clearly breakin’.

Ahhh!! How cute. They are attracted to certain colors like orange, yellow, red, and also to the scent of the pollen in the flowers. I enjoyed reading this one today. I do enjoy seeing the hummers in the summer months. It is amazing what they can do. Usually unless one has a feeder or flowers that they feed upon one rarely sees one. Thanks for dropping by my page. Wow! I love this. I can see it happening. I have almost been hit by flying humming birds around. But, I do feed them :)

Thanks for your read and for telling your experience, Heidi. I think they are beautiful, but not very plentiful in my neighborhood. Perhaps I should start feeding them.

I had a good laugh while reading this humorous story, and it was fascinating to discover that the color red was the catalyst for all of this.

I think that was the case, Lasaad. I'm told they are attracted to red.

Glad you were only a 'feeder,' not a 'bleeder,' Milt. :) gw

Funny thing, gw. I AM a bleeder. It was rather startling and I'm not sure who was the most startled!
