How Willing Was Barkis

Barkis was willing,
Peggotty was not.
Barkis was wanting,
To tie the wedding knot.

He did not have the nerve,
To ask Peggotty to wed,
So he told David to
Ask for him instead.

Peggotty laughed merrily
With a twinkle in her eye,
Said, "Barkis doesn't love me,
He loves my apple pie."

David related to Barkis
What Peggotty had said
Barkis knew that,
She was an excellent cook,
But how was Barkis in bed?
