Meter -  Alternating  Iambic Tetrameter - Cateletic  with Iambic Trimeter - Acateletic.

Rhyme -  A-B / A-B

with final couplet - A-A

According to my neighborhood,
(All experts on the topic),
Opinions vary, none too good,
One called it "Catastrophic".

Exterminators sigh, refrain
Condolences, I'm sorry.
At City Hall, they're shocked, exclaim
They have no such Department

To know that squirrels are running wild,
I hear them as they scamper.
An attic is a sacred place,
Secure, not meant to tamper.

Their next move, chewing all the wire
And gnawing through the rafters.
I hear them squeak a vermin's choir
And hear my own crazed laughter.

That life dare heave this final ho,
But agents know thier timelines.
The hours when the house is shown,
Their outdoor play, the best time.

I also left the scheduled due
When freight train horns will pass through.

Dear Phyl....sorry for the typos. The beginning of Line 4 should read... "warped an inch" (and I call myself a writer) Medications and that old "bug-a-boo" age sneaking up....Love 'Ya...Gene

Hi, friend Phyl. It's good to hear from you. They got in a little guest house out back. It was my sacred inner sanctum, with piano, easel set up to paint. One of the facia boards bellow the roof slightly warper and inch in one place. They can flatten their body incredibly. Replaced board, squirrels gone. Thanks for reading and the comment ...your friend and fan...Gene

Hi Linda...Yes as in very, very top secret. Now that he's deceased, I can tell you My uncle worked as an advisor on all that, which he never discuseed. Kelley Johnson was head of the program. My uncle was a genuine genius, but always seemed normal, for he brought his conversation and behavior down to the level of the person he was conversing or socializing with. He could have made a fortune a poker, for he could "count cards" and new the probability of where every card was in everyone's hand. He made a fortune anyway, for they paid the Black Ops personel major bucks. I hope no one reads this and kidnaps me. I swear....my uncle never divulged anything to me :) ...your friend....Gene

Gene Bourne My friend, I hope the higher number rating means one likes this more as I gave you a 7. Let me know if I failed the rating deal. I tried to find an explanation. Your poems are so good it gets to the point where I read 2-3 times and analyze the structure. Impeccable iamblic mixed meter. The story reminds me of 203, a house now empty up for sale by owner. However, the deer, squirrels, raccoon, flying turkeys, moles, you name it, remain. I am picturing our cornice......

Hi, friend Thomas...thanks so much for your comments. I think 7 is good. I know you have a special feeling for houses now...and know 203 will find loving owners. Glad to see you on PS. No comparison with 'the dark side".....Your friend...Gene

I pulled an "all nighter" on the PC, dozing off and catching myself. Once, my head slowly drifted down, where my nose was directly between the Shift and the "Z' key....a full monitor of Z's. I thought his was very appropriate. I thought this poem was ready to post. Sixteen "Edits" later, I have a feeling there are still Meter mistakes....I'm not a Squirrel hater, or anything....but they're not the friendliest critters I've encountered. Thanks for you comments, Jerry. They are appreciated....Your PS friend....Gene.
