How We Met

How We Met by Edmund Siejka Summer came fast Like speeding cars Loud radios Blue skies and Warm sun Days when I was young and naïve And old enough to know nothing Spending aimless hours Waiting for something to happen. And one day I saw her Just a passing glance But I took it all in The way her perfumed scent Floated in the summer breeze The way her hips moved In a slow sensuous rhythm Long hair touched her shoulders Her body even and full I couldn’t help myself And I dreamed of her Every night. One day we met But this time I couldn’t stop Staring at her And suddenly I was aware That she was studying me A slow searching gaze A coolness in her eyes A feeling I never knew before That excited me. Awkwardly I blurted out a hello Suddenly a torrent of words, All jumbled and twisted, Came out Embarrassed at what I said I wanted to hide. Instead, I stood there Unable to move Trapped by my ignorance When she smiled at me Her eyes full and bright Lips slightly parted A look that told me It was OK And that’s how we met.
