How To Grow a Tree
Late one night I was lost in my sleep,
I guess God can penetrate dreams.
Because when I'm drifting off
I stopped counting my sheep,
I see Him, waiting in trees.
Is He waiting for me?
Do I climb up that tree?
I told Him I've always believed.
He smiled at me saying,
"go back to sleep
this tree you can't climb without me."
When morning came to
my soul felt so heavy
with no flames to light up my lamp.
I felt guilty and doubting
the Lord's waiting without me
oh why can't I climb to that branch?
God I love You so please,
don't let me stand on this ground
give me strength to climb up that tree.
"Child,
I'm waiting for you to grow fruit from your spirit
like how branches can grow out these leaves.
Don't be discouraged
you're worth all the waiting
and I know you've always believed.
But for My plants to grow
and their fruit to show,
it all must start with a seed.
I've planted in you
a seed I call 'Truth'
during times of trouble and pain.
Because during those times
the clouds filled up the skies
and watered your seed with the rain.
And during those times
when rain fell from the skies
you probably felt sad in between.
But child,
you needed that water
to grow larger and stronger
to reach me up here in this tree."
