How Soon We Age

How soon we age through the years When aboard the train of time, As the bliss of youth disappears With all we hold as prime; How soon everything is gone Into the blaze of the night, Leaving that which is unborn To trouble our tender heart. A young friend in his dire zeal May just never understand, Until life becomes so real To escape his stubborn mind: That youthfulness and all its mirth Are all but for few days; For closer is the day of death Than it seems in all ways.
