How great to be a father, and have this day for me.
A day that brings along with it responsibility
It's very easy to make a child it can even be quite fun
When it happens it's not over and we're very far from done
It's all the doing after, that makes the reason for this day
To be there, for what might happen, to never run away
The caring and the sharing, love for ones who have your name
It's what our lives are all about, the most important game
Don't beat your chest, say look at me, this is really wild
Not until they're grown, and you've helped raise them from a child
To be there and to hold them to change their dirty pants
To mend them when they're injured, put up with all their rants
To back them in their efforts, give comfort when they cry
Provide food for thought and body and a bed in which to lie
Be a gentle critic, always their biggest fan
That's what makes a father, a dad, not just a creative man
On this day be thankful if someone calls you dad
Always be there for them, even when they're very bad
Then you will deserve these words that I'm about to say
Enjoy this time it's just for you and Happy Father's Day
