How Do You Hold Someone

How do you hold someone in your heart
When you have yet to hold them in your arms?

How do you see them running barefoot in your mind?
When you haven’t even laid eyes on them?

And how do you smell them around you
When you haven’t breathed them?

How can you feel their touch ever so softly?
When they have yet to touch you?

How come you can taste them upon your lips?
When their lips haven’t met yours

How can you hear their whispers in your ear?
When they are not here

How can you feel someone in all you do?
When you have done nothing together

How do you hold someone in your heart?
When you have yet to hold them in your arms
