How could Love Exist

The nightmares existed when at age of four I'd cry out in terror
Father awoken, in anger comes into my bedroom
belts me upon my exposed bare bum
But the nightmares they continued, frequency every day
and even though I craved for some supporting love
Never again do I call out for my mum

My mentorship for life begins, from two parents,
seeking supremacy over each other, causes deep anger to persist
Every day they'd yell and scream ,call each other nasty names, alcohol rarely the cause.
in that household , how could love, possibly exist

When an adult , with
the mentorship my two parents had shown
Filled with anger, low self esteem, constantly knotted in the guts
that's how I 'd conduct myself, that's how I had grown

The old way of life, sad, but a blessing in disguise
It made me stronger when I decided, where the past should lie
I sought positive solutions to eradicate negativity, anxiety and depression
Wow!! This new way of life, really made me feel like I could fly

I was in my early thirties when I commenced action,to turn my life around
Forty five years later self esteem, laughter, happiness and love
within me, these positive emotions, in abundance they now abound

Wow. I am so glad you turned things around. This is a good poem for showing your raw feelings. I had a nice mixed family but my mom and stepfather also fought nonstop. Every night yelling and crying. Ridiculous! I don't think my sisters and I emulated this behavior. We are mellow. It's so nice you learned not to let your parents' bad behavior affect you. By the way , I can't find your barefoot barf poem?

In reading your piece, I felt the emotions. I'm glad that healing from this experience and positivity were a must. When you get a chance, check out the piece I wrote called "Needles of Darknes"
