Hopes and Dreams

What do you hope for, of what do you dream
Do you long for distant places, yet to be seen
Where the sea laps to shore on a gentle breeze
And wind blows gently through the magnolia trees
Where you wriggle your toes in the warm golden sand
While the fish take food from your open hand

What do you long for, of what do you wish
Is it to have someone hold you and, with a gentle kiss
Let you know they love you from deep in their soul
And they’ll be by your side, as you both grow old
No matter wherever you both might be
You’re in their thoughts, their actions and deeds

Are your hopes for the future to be wealthy and wise
Or perhaps climb mountains and ski down the sides
Some people want to fly high in the sky
To feel that freedom, like a bird soaring high
While others like to keep their feet on the ground
Searching for something they haven’t yet found

And as I think of my own distant hopes and dreams
I watch the stars in the sky like a glimmering stream
Lighting up the night with their welcoming glow
My innermost thoughts, only they will know
Reach for your dreams is what they seem to say
Have hope and be brave, we will show you the way
