Hope For Tomorrow

Stuck in a quagmire
Bound by a bog
Blinded by mist
And shrouded by fog

I try to move forward
But only go down
Grasping and groping
To find solid ground

All of my efforts
And all of my pains
Only produce
More taxable gains

Each swing of my hammer
Each bead of my sweat
Just launches me further
And deeper in debt

If only just once
A buck was a buck
And not just a target
With me as the duck

I might live to flourish
Fulfilling my dreams
Instead of recurring
To shadows and schemes

But maybe one day
The clouds will all break
The sun will shine through
And I will awake

To stand in the glory
That I should have known
Could only be found
At the side of the throne

Your poetry speaks volumes, Favorite lines "If only just once A buck was a buck And not just a target With me as the duck" Another very well written and thought provoking piece of art.
