Hope Box

A box of given up hopes was left outside my door
The bell had rang, I went to it and found it on the floor
I had a curiosity of who had placed, why and where
As I had looked into the night, there wasn’t a soul there

What did this mean, the emptiness, is this my destined fate?
Nothing then will ever come true, for happiness I’ll wait?
Or, perhaps, did someone change their ways and sacrifice for good
With hopes to fill another box, just as they always should?

I will wait until the next time my doorbell again will ring
With hopes to see who left behind or if a box they bring
I will then be sure to say that hope is theirs to always own
So, fill the box with all new dreams, you’ll never be alone
