Hope and Happiness

I've learned to cut myself off emotionally, it's how I survive.
If I am vulnerable, for success I won't be able to strive.
And so I've embraced this lifestyle, alone and wary.
But an event will come, like you, and make me feel merry.
You make me feel like I am special.

You seem to understand the true meaning of pain.
For us, negativity in our life pours on us like falling rain.
And we've shed tears when all we love is broken before us.
And I've dealt with so many bad people, yet you I want to trust.
You make me feel like I am strong.

When you converse with me you bring me laughter
And when we're done my smile remains long after.
I've always thought there was no hope for the human race.
I've always thought there was no happiness for me to embrace.
You make see all the hope and happiness.
