Honor the Gracious Doorman

Elegant traditions slowly fade.
A life of service, a worthy trade.
Helping others is its own reward;
inherent virtue can't be ignored.

Wear a tie, tip your hat,
shine your shoe, don a spat.
That's the proper way to do;
adopt a cultured world view.

Bow to kings, royals 'n mates;
respect heads of state, delegates.
Greet keen chums only by first name
but global icons with refrain.

Represent with pride your workplace;
they'll recall a friendly face.
Of course, you're free to have some fun,
remember to square your cummerbund!

I love the elegant dress and manners of yesteryear. No road rage, people actually pulled over to help if you had a stalled car. If I want to return to that era I just have to watch a black-and-white movie or read this wonderful poem again! A fave for me my friend! : ) xxoo

Connie, yesteryear is such a neat word, maybe worthy of a poem itself. Surely those times and traditions are comforting to those of us who remember. Thanks always for your kind remarks and visit.

Gosh. This is just great. Such a splendid tribute to an underappreciated and dying 'craftsman.' Thanks for the trip down memory lane, Greg. Best wishes, Gershon

Happy to see someone appreciates an offbeat subject and my approach. Usually I pick prompts that catch my notice and that may interest others. Your comments are heartening. Thanks so much.
