Contempt for time
Devoid of violence
The wind paints my back
Your hand my silence
The leaves rustled, snow fell
lost voices reborn, inside my shell
Dreams flourished, smiles decayed
seasons bled night, the sun another day
I watched your father drink, your mother die
disease ravage your sister, rain wash your eye
You argued with chance, persevered in pain
married the love of your life, believed again
Happiness anew, little footsteps I harbored
the seed was sewn, hope never martyred
The storm had passed, my skin now weathered
tattered by toil, years spent together
But shadow crept again, I creaked so cold
you awoke to my whispers, frail and old
I knew not of love, pride, or even despair
just this soil, echoes, and the open air
Time has no regrets, nor do I
I will never breathe
You must try
