Holey

My sock has a hole.
Should I throw it away?
No one wants to see
My big toe on display.

And yet, if I darn it,
The stitches will show
And that may look almost
As bad as the toe.

I guess I’ll just ditch it
And also its mate.
It’s argyle and other socks
Just won’t equate.

It’s not a big deal
So then, who would console
For the end of the life
Of a sock with a hole?

Yet I always feel bad
When some socks must get tossed.
They’ve lasted through laundry
And never got lost.

But everything always
Must come to an end
And sometimes it’s better
To toss than to mend…
