Holding Back Tears

I well remember trying not to cry, It was the hardest thing I ever did All us graded boys gave it our best try, In the third class I was the smallest kid As to homework I was always solid, I remember so well holding back tears A paddling was one of my biggest fears, But I did not have my assignment done Any excuse always fell on deaf ears, Believe me, the paddling wasn't much fun!

We only wish we got paddled at home; dad's razor belt was much worse. It made me bleed; couldn't sit down for a week, as they say -- only it was very real for me... Glad those days are gone. It was surreal, as I recall... :) gw

Well, as you know, my father was abusive, so I knew the sting and cutting of his belt. I was really this teacher's pet, so I think she hated to paddle me and went lightly. It was most my feelings that were bruised. I never told my father!

Thanks so much, Mike. I still remember that bruised ego very well...and the stinging bottom!
