Holding Back Tears

Holding back tears when you died,
I needed to be strong for the others by my side.
Holding back tears going through your treasures-what do I get rid of,
it was heartbreaking as I touched each one and felt your love.
Holding back tears as family lied,
I know the truth and it will be my guide.
Holding back tears,
as you stole right out from under me with cheers.
Holding back tears no more,
it is now time to cry a river up to the shore.

Congrats Paula on your win in Edward's contest. Words of your poem tug the heart. Not easy after a loved one passes away--so movingly you articulated.

Very moving, Paula. I like the strong simplicity of your words - they carry a powerful punch. No adjective stacking here - just the resonance of everyday speech that has impact nonetheless. Best wishes, Brian

Very sad, it's not easy to hold back those tears; the lump in the throat grows and they eventually come. Powerful lines.

So sad Paula, never hold your tears back, we were made to cry to release our fears and pain, there’s tears of joy too, souvenirs of moments precious to you… Belle
