High Heels Sing
The spiral staircase made her high heels sing
Sliding down and around on it’s wide railing,
Like the high schooler she used to be
She kicked heels off ,squealing with glee.
Dashing out the door and into the street
With nothing but excitement on her feet.
To the top of that tower at the edge of town
Keeping that promise to Johnny Brown.
From here the City churches pierced the mist
Almost spying on their secret tryst,
A reminder of religion’s whitewashed pride.
She opened the door and read the wall inside
“No more secrets, “ with an arrow pointing down,
Her heart leapt ,as she dashed to town.
Johnny, with open ring box ,as he waited there
He closed it, and, now smiling, crossed the square.
