Hey Whats Up

in my kitchen at the break of day
I heard a tiny voice trump out a “hey!”
it was a baby elephant in my coffee cup.
“How are you?” he asked me. “What is up?”

This surprised me a bit, it had not happened before.
I tried to tell my husband before he got out the door.
He rolled his eyes, and acted like I was insane.
Two seconds later a giraffe crawled out of my kitchen drain.
