Notes About The Poem

Liebesreim: means lover's rhyme in German

This is for Sherri Lynn

Hey Alabama

Hey Alabama, can you hear me?
You in Illinois and me in Wisconsin
We finally met in Germany

Hey Alabama, it’s twenty twenty-five
I can’t find you on Facebook
I wonder if you’re still alive

Hey Alabama, it’s nineteen eighty-six
I have just arrived in country
I’ll be living in the barracks

Hey Alabama, Hey Country
You calling to me in Georgia
Just a state away from me

Hey Alabama, hey October
Your 4th of July in my blue eyes
You a Country girl, me a Rock-n-Roller

Hey Alabama, did you know
I can still remember the smell
of your perfume on my clothes

(Hey Alabama, I will never forget our early morning
Together looking down upon a German village
Lights shining through while it was snowing

And we (not knowing at the time)
Were always just one state away from each other
Until we met in our Liebesreim)

Hey Alabama I hate to bring this up
When things were going good for us
Why'd you suddenly break up?

Hey Alabama, did you feel the need
To push me away (you never said goodbye)
And let me bleed?

Hey Alabama, I know, I know, so
I will refrain from making a scene
I just wanted you to know

I’d rather remember you
The way I remember you
The way you remember me too

Thanks for the sentiment Yann.....I guess we all can all relate to lost love. The title comes from the Country band Alabama (she turned me, a rocker onto that band), and yes Sherri was stationed in Alabama, too.....y'all from Alabama?
