Here In the Back of My Mind

Looking in your eyes, I see
Some places where I've been.
And in countless places, far and wide,
I've tried and tried again
To put you somewhere in my life
That I can always find.
Now, when I'm down, you're easily found --
Here in the back of my mind.

Here in the back of my mind
I know I can always find
The memory of a time or place
You have left behind.
You seldom leave, so it's hard to believe
That you'd ever be so unkind
To leave nothing at all to show you were here --
Here in the back of my mind.

This place in the back of my mind
Is where I can usually find
An echo of a yesterday
That sometimes crosses my mind.
And if memories live, then you should know,
A special place you'll find
That's yours alone forevermore --
Here in the back of my mind.
