Her Flowers

she tried her hand at gardening
but failed in the attempt
plants grew lush and green
but the flowers
never bloomed

the years were hard and lean
but, there was food on the table
a good roof over the head
clean clothes to wear
even the holes were pressed

she saved her pennies
copper dreams in a fruit jar
and never gave up hope
the failed flowers
would finally bloom

she passed a few years back
and every new spring
her wild flowers bloom
bought with those pennies
spent in heaven
