Henceforth

Without an alarm I break off my sleeping,
Trying to escape the California dreaming.
Washed the plates from last night's dinner,
Fed your cat and sat by the window.
I kissed you softly on the shoulder,
Closed my eyes, and then I wondered
Why you turned away from me?
Only Eve notices me leaving.

Henceforth the love is gone that we once had.
Henceforth you wake up alone in your king-sized bed.
Henceforth your sweet words echo in my head.
Henceforth I'm haunted.

Half a mile from your apartment
to the Ural Cinema stop,
Fifteen minutes on the tracks,
and l still feel your lips on mine.
I didn't know what fear was then,
When all that's left of love is sand.
To see a million different faces on the streets
But in the crowd to seek your dimming shade.

Henceforth the love is gone that we once had.
Henceforth you wake up alone in your king-sized bed.
Henceforth your sweet words echo in my head.
Henceforth I'm haunted.

I left this place the same day
I waited for you on a bench
On a cold and empty promenade.
I've spent the hours for you just to say
"I love you so much" and get nothing back.
The unspoken rule of "Kiss me when
we cross the threshold" was broken,
Like the promises that we made, never to keep 'em.
Henceforth I'm pondering you're the only one that I wanted.

Evgeniy, a wonderfully penned heartfelt emotive poem. A great depiction of love loss and heartbreak.

Love doesn't stop even if not reciprocated. The strength found to walk away when the string is broken is painful but not as much as staying.
