Hello, Poetry

Sometimes when I'm able,
I sit down at my table,
or better yet, instead,
I'll lie back comfy on my bed,
a pillow propped behind my head!

Often at this time it is at night
and I will think and try to write.
Patterns I enjoy, like those in classic forms, and so
I'll write perhaps a kyrielle or sonnet though
sometimes I'll even give free verse a go!

I settle on a certain length for my every line.
Or maybe I'll decide this time uneven lines are fine!
It might take a long while; then some
sweet words in rhyme might start to come
with the rhythm of a guitar's thrum.

All I need is paper and my pen
and my thoughts unfettered, for then
I can call my muse to come to me!
If she hastens with ingenuity,
I can say, "Hello, Poetry."

This is how you touch us with your words... I have dedicated one poem recently to wonderful poets like you... Squeeze out some time to read it.. " Touch the words in Braille ".I will be honored to get feedback from a great poet like you.. I am just a beginner in trying my hands at English poetry

I mean why not? Have you ever read Rupi Kaur's work. A poet who made it on the best seller list with two of her poetry books! Good role model for the both of us! Hello poetry , indeed, and hello you and yours out in the midwest! Peace & Love Matthew Anish

It is terrific to realize that you are writing poetry the same way the rest of us are - one thought at a time, with an optimistic attitude that it will come and give you a "hello" back. Poetry is a living being in my world, and now I know you feel the same, and it pleases me greatly, Andrea.

You do tackle some restrictive forms, Andrea, and always rise to the challenge. I think inspiration comes to you when you are ready to write -- it comes to me at odd times when no pen and paper are in sight. So interesting to see how your creative process flows, Hon. Best wishes in the contest! Hugs, Carolyn

Yes, I have the same experiences as you. I am sitting on my bed right now with pillows behind my head awaiting my dear muse to arrive. :) Enjoyed reading this wonderful poem.
