Heed the Call
HEED THE CALL
In a dream that I dreamt last night
A message received was meant for real
It was difficult and painful to accept
Even as I laid there in bed and slept
Now as dawn is breaking I can reveal
I am summoned and must go to fight
We always knew the war grew near
My orders came from an unreal source
I must leave today and hope to return
But my love for you will always burn
And all battles must run their course
It’s not just you who will shed a tear
Perhaps it’s loyalty, or maybe duty
Even the passion for a rightful cause
But words softly spoken, were clear
That voice in my dream was sincere
Yet even now it still gives me pause
I’ll keep safe the image of your beauty
It was if I heard my own voice say
Follow the orders, and quickly pack
The message also had a second part
To share it now just breaks my heart
That understanding I won’t be back
Sadly, I bid farewell but must obey
